The experience
You arrive at the atelier in the heart of Ragusa Ibla and start with a welcome drink to settle into the space. The artist gives a brief history of the studio, then walks you through the fundamentals: how clay responds to your hands, how to shape a simple form, where to add color and detail. If you've never touched a pottery wheel or worked with clay, that's exactly who this is for. The instruction moves at your pace, and you're free to ask questions and experiment as you go.
What you make is small but real. A piece of terracotta that you've formed and decorated yourself. Because ceramics need time to dry, fire and glaze, your work doesn't leave with you that day. The studio handles the kiln work and either holds it for collection or ships it to you, depending on what you arrange. That's the trade: you get a finished, fired ceramic instead of a damp clay shape, and the studio does the technical work that turns it permanent.
The workshop runs indoors, so weather doesn't change the plan. Children from age 4 are welcome, and the space is wheelchair accessible. English-language instruction is standard. Spanish support is available if you ask ahead. Booking opens a few hours before each session, so you can fit this into a loose morning or afternoon without planning weeks in advance.

Is this one for you?Book this if you want to make something with your hands instead of watching a demonstration: the small group and personal instruction mean you're actually shaping clay and making decisions about your piece, not observing someone else do it.
