The experience

The host (one of Cesarine's network of home cooks across Italy) invites you into her kitchen to watch her finish a dish from her family cookbook. You're not a spectator: you see how the pasta gets made, how the sauce comes together, what goes into a Ragusa recipe that has been passed down through her own family. Then you sit down at her table for the meal itself: a seasonal starter, fresh pasta (cavati al sugo, ravioli di ricotta, or spaghetti with tuna-roe depending on the day), a second course like maccu soup or stuffed hen or trippa alla ragusana, a Sicilian dessert (cannolo, gelo di limone, cassata or tiramisu) with water, a choice of regional red and white wines, and coffee.

This is not a restaurant. You're eating in someone's home, at her table, with her. The warmth of the setup is the point: Cesarine's cooks open their doors because they want to share what they cook, not because they're running a business. The whole thing takes 2.5 hours. You can book lunch or dinner. Public transport runs nearby if you need it.
