The experience

Eight hours gives you time to move through Pisa without rushing. You start at the La Spezia cruise terminal at 8:30am (adjusted to match your ship's schedule), where your guide meets you with a nameplate. By 9am you're at Pisa's Miracle Square, the Cathedral, Baptistery and the Leaning Tower all standing together: your vehicle drops you at the edge so you can walk and photograph freely. The guide stays with you to explain what you're looking at, not to hurry you through.

At 10am you drive twenty minutes through the Pisa and Lucca valley into the countryside, arriving in Lucca's walled old town. You walk the narrow streets (via Finlungo is the main shopping run) see the Church of San Michele in Foro and the Torre delle Ore, and end at the Amphitheater Square. The guide leads you through the town but leaves room for your own pace. By 1:20pm you're heading out to the winery, where a staff member walks you through the wine cellar, the vineyards, and the building's history. You learn about Sangiovese and other Tuscan grapes, then taste a range of wines with bruschetta topped in the winery's own extra virgin olive oil. Food and wine are paired. You choose what to taste.

Because this is private, your guide adjusts the schedule around your ship's times. If you need an earlier start or a later finish, it shifts. The operator guarantees your return to La Spezia port in time for your departure. If your ship has left, they arrange transport to the next port. If your ship is delayed and you can't go, you get a refund. Children ride free if they sit on an adult's lap, and infant seats are available if you ask when you book.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 17 years): free; Infant (under 3): free.

What exactly is the Leaning Tower and why does it lean?

The Leaning Tower is the bell tower (campanile) of Pisa's Cathedral, built over nearly two centuries starting in 1173. It leans because the ground on one side settled unevenly during construction, and the tilt has grown slightly over time. Your guide will explain the history and point out the details as you stand in front of it.

Can I climb the Leaning Tower, or just look at it from outside?

The tour includes time at the Miracle Square where the tower stands, but climbing is not part of this excursion. You can photograph it, walk around it, and see the Cathedral and Baptistery beside it. If climbing interests you, that's a separate paid ticket you'd arrange on your own.

How long do I spend in Lucca, and what can I actually see there?

You arrive around 10am and spend roughly three hours in Lucca. You walk the Church of San Michele in Foro, the Torre delle Ore (clock tower), and via Finlungo, the main street for shopping and cafes. You end at the Amphitheater Square. The medieval walls still surround the town, and your guide points out the layout and history as you move through the streets.

Is the wine tasting included, or do I pay extra?

Wine tasting is included in the tour price. You visit the winery's cellar and vineyards, learn about Tuscan grapes like Sangiovese, and taste a range of wines paired with bruschetta made from the winery's own olive oil. Lunch is not included, though the bruschetta and wine may be substantial enough for some travelers.

What if my ship arrives late or leaves early? Can the tour times change?

Yes. Because this is a private tour, the start and finish times adjust to your ship's actual schedule. Tell the operator your arrival and departure times when you book, and they'll plan the itinerary around them. The operator guarantees your return to La Spezia port in time to board.
