The Experience

How do you actually taste wine instead of just drinking it? The sommelier meets you at your hotel in Naples and drives you to the Sorrentino family vineyard, where the walk begins. You'll learn the history of the vines, the techniques that grow them, and the stories behind the indigenous varieties—all while moving through rows planted in volcanic soil that changed everything after the 79 AD eruption that buried Pompei. If you want to go deeper, the sommelier can take you to a section of the vineyard directly connected to that eruption, so you understand how the volcano shaped the terroir and the wine itself.

After 50 minutes on the vineyard paths, you reach an elevated platform where Vesuvius rises on one side and the Bay of Naples spreads on the other. Then you move to the Sorrentino farmhouse restaurant for the tasting itself. This is not a quick pour-and-move experience: a three-course meal arrives—two starters, two mains, one dessert—all farm-to-table, all grown or raised on the property. Nine glasses of wine come with it, including dessert wine and local distilled spirits. The sommelier guides you through each pairing, teaching you the inspection and analysis techniques you just learned in the vineyard, so the food and wine make sense together instead of just tasting good.

The Master Wine Aroma Kit Experience is included with every tasting as of November 2024.
