You start at the shop in Lucca and ride over the city walls, then follow the Puccini cycle path and the white road along the Serchio river to leave traffic behind. The route climbs gently through olive groves and vineyard rows—nothing steep, but enough roll to feel the landscape change as you pedal. A smartphone app with a cellphone holder on the handlebars shows you where to turn; a repair kit and bike lock come with the bike so you're not stranded if something goes wrong.
The farmer meets you at the winery and sets out a picnic box with local cheeses, cured meats, bread and his own wine.
