The experience
You start on the Walls of Lucca (the Renaissance cycle walls that ring the entire city), and ride them with your private guide, who explains what you're seeing as you go. The route takes you past the Cathedral of San Martino, the Church of San Michele in Foro, Piazza dell'Anfiteatro (built inside a Roman amphitheater) and Piazza Napoleone, each one a stop where the guide shares the story of the square. The e-bike does the work on the uphills, so the pace stays relaxed even though you're covering real ground.
Midway through, you stop at a traditional delicatessen to taste Tuscan appetizers (salt-cured meats and cheeses) with a glass of wine. After a short ride, you sit down again at one of Lucca's historic pastry shops and taste the local sweets: Buccellato, a sweet bread studded with raisins and anise, and Torta Coi Becchi, a cake made with chard, pine nuts and raisins. The two tastings break up the ride and let you taste what Lucca is known for beyond its churches and walls.
The e-bike comes with a lock, and your guide is with you the whole time. The tour runs 2.5 hours total. Riders need to be at least 155cm tall and at least 12 years old. The guide speaks English or Italian.

What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What are the main sights I'll see on this e-bike tour of Lucca?
The Walls of Lucca form the route itself. You ride them for part of the tour. You also stop at the Cathedral of San Martino, the Church of San Michele in Foro, Piazza dell'Anfiteatro (which sits inside a Roman amphitheater) and Piazza Napoleone, with your guide explaining each one as you go.
When do I taste the food, and what exactly will I eat?
You stop twice: first at a traditional delicatessen for Tuscan appetizers (salt-cured meats and cheeses) with a glass of wine, then at a historic pastry shop for local sweets including Buccellato (sweet bread with raisins and anise) and Torta Coi Becchi (a cake with chard, pine nuts and raisins).
Do I need to be fit to do this tour, or is it relaxed?
The e-bike handles the hills, so the pace stays relaxed and suitable for all fitness levels. It's not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health, but the electric assist means you're not fighting the terrain.
How old do you need to be to ride the e-bike?
You must be at least 12 years old and at least 155cm (about 5'1") tall to ride the e-bike. Italian law does not permit children under 14 to ride e-bikes, and no seat, trailer or tag-along can be attached to the bike.
