You enter Pitti Palace with a guide and move through six separate museums — the Palatina Gallery with Medici paintings, the Royal Apartments, Modern Art, Costume and Fashion, and the Treasury — all in one complex. Your ticket covers entrance and access to the first floor galleries where the Medici lived. Bring your ID matching your booking name, wear comfortable shoes for the stairs, and arrive 15 minutes early.
You're standing in the Oltrarno district, and the palazzo in front of you doesn't look like it was built by a banker — it looks like it was built to make other buildings look small. Palazzo Pitti, commissioned by Luca Pitti and attributed to Filippo Brunelleschi, dominates the square with a kind of architectural confidence that takes a moment to absorb. Your ticket gets you inside, and once you're through the entrance, you're walking the same rooms where the Medici family lived and kept their private art collections.
The Palatina Gallery occupies the entire first floor, and it's not organized the way modern museums are. Paintings hang salon-style, crowded and layered, the way they were actually displayed when the Medici owned them — which means you're seeing Renaissance masterworks in the context they were meant for, not in the white-cube silence of a contemporary gallery. The Royal and Imperial Apartments are there too, so you move between rooms where people slept, ate and made decisions that shaped Florence, and rooms where they hung Raphaels and Titians. After the Palatina, your ticket also covers the Gallery of Modern Art, the Treasury of the Grand Dukes, the Museum of Costume and Fashion, and the Royal Apartments — all within the same complex, so you're not running between buildings.
The walk to reach the main sites involves stairs and moderate walking, so comfortable shoes matter. Your voucher needs to have all travelers' full names on it when you arrive at the ticket office — that's non-negotiable for entry. The staff will be wearing a green t-shirt with the "My Tour" logo, and you should arrive 15 minutes before your departure time. Groups need a minimum of four participants to operate; if that threshold isn't met, you'll be offered an alternative or a full refund. A helpline with local staff is available if you need it, and if your group is larger than 15 people, earphones are provided so you can hear the guide.
