The Experience
The tour starts in Piazza del Duomo, where your guide decodes the marble facade and the rivalries that shaped the cathedral from the outside in. You then walk into the Baptistery of San Giovanni, one of Florence's oldest buildings, before moving to the Opera del Duomo Museum to see the original sculptures and tools used to build the dome: the Renaissance at close range, with the stories that make it land harder. The guide speaks English, Spanish, French or German depending on which tour you book.
The climb comes at the end. Giotto's Bell Tower rises 84 meters over the city, and the reserved entry means you don't queue at the door. The 414 steps have no elevator. With each level the noise fades and the view sharpens until you're standing above the red roofs in silence. The climb takes time, it's not rushed, and the small-group cap of 15 people keeps the stairwell from feeling crowded.
After the guided experience, your included 3-day Duomo Complex pass lets you return within two extra days to walk the cathedral interior and the Crypt of Santa Reparata at your own pace, using the faster Crypt entrance. Headsets are provided for groups of 5 or more so you hear the guide clearly even in the larger spaces.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
In English, at 08:15, 10:30 and 13:00. In Spanish, at 11:00. In French, at 10:30. In German, at 08:15.
Can children come?
7 to 14 years; under 7, free.
What's the difference between the guided tour and the self-guided pass I get afterward?
The guided portion covers the Baptistery, cathedral exterior, and museum with a local guide who explains the history and meanings behind the art and architecture. The 3-day pass gives you solo access to the cathedral interior and the Crypt of Santa Reparata, which you explore on your own schedule and at your own pace.
Can I climb Giotto's Bell Tower if I'm not in great shape?
The climb is 414 steps with no elevator, so it's a real physical effort. The tour is suitable for all fitness levels, but the climb itself is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health or anyone who feels claustrophobic in tight stairwells.
How many people are usually on the tour?
Groups stay under 15 people, which keeps the experience personal and the pace unhurried through each stop.
Do I get to go inside the cathedral dome itself?
The guided tour covers the cathedral exterior, Baptistery, and museum. Your 3-day pass includes self-guided access to the cathedral interior and the Crypt of Santa Reparata, but not the climb of Brunelleschi's Dome, which requires a separate ticket.
