You cook nothing. The host does, and you taste everything hot.

A cooking demonstration and three-course dinner at a local cook's home in Pisa, where you watch a Cesarina prepare seasonal Tuscan dishes in her kitchen, then eat them at her table with wine and coffee. The experience runs about two and a half hours and seats a small group. You can book lunch or dinner, both in English or Italian.

The experience

The Cesarine network opens private homes across Italy to travelers who want to eat what a real cook makes, not what a restaurant plated for strangers. In Pisa, you arrive at your host's home, watch her prepare a starter and fresh pasta (spaghetti with local clams, pasta with chickpeas, or pappardelle), then a Tuscan dessert like castagnaccio or pine nut cake. She cooks in front of you, and the kitchen fills with the smell of what you're about to eat. No instruction, no apron, no hands-on work: you're a guest watching someone who knows the recipes by heart, the ones her family has cooked for generations.

After the demonstration, you sit down to the three courses she's made, with water, wine and coffee included. The meal is the point, and so is the conversation: Cesarina hosts are chosen for their warmth, and the small group size means you actually talk to them and to each other, not to a guide reading from notes. The whole thing takes about two and a half hours. You can choose lunch or dinner when you book. Both run the same way, just at different times of day.
