Chianti Winery Tour & Vineyard Picnic with Wine
What happens when you skip the crowded wine bars and eat lunch inside the vines instead?
You'll tour the vineyards and cellar at your own pace, taste wine in a cozy setting overlooking the vines, and eat a picnic of homemade Tuscan food with a bottle of wine included. The private format means no group timing, and you can skip the tour part if you'd rather go straight to eating.
Step-by-step itinerary
Winery tour and vineyard picnic
- Optional guided vineyard and cellar tour
- Learn about working methods and terroirs
- Visit vaulted cellar with aging wines
- Enjoy wine tasting with homemade delicacies
- Have picnic basket with Tuscan specialties
- Relax in cozy vineyard atmosphere
- Time to purchase wine to take home
The Experience
You get a morning that doesn't feel rushed. The winery tour through Chianti's Brunello vineyards is optional—so if you'd rather head straight to the picnic setup, you can—but most people do the walk. Your host explains how the terroir shifts across the property, what the vines need, how long the wines sit in the vaulted cellar aging. It's the kind of detail that makes the wine taste different when you drink it an hour later, you know?
After the cellar, you move to a table already set in the vineyard itself. The picnic basket arrives with fresh bread, pecorino, capocollo, pappa al pomodoro—that bread and tomato salad that sounds simple until you taste it—pasta fredda, and vegetable cream. A bottle of wine comes with it: you choose white, rosé, or red before you arrive. Bottled water too. The light hits the rows of vines in a way that makes you understand why people write about Chianti the way they do, but you're too busy eating to say it out loud.
The whole thing is private, which means no group shuffle, no set departure time that doesn't match your hotel's breakfast. You're not fighting for a table or waiting for a guide to finish explaining something to someone else. After the picnic, there's time to walk around, take photos, or browse the shop if you want to take a bottle home—though the one in your basket might be enough.
