The experience
What does a Sicilian village look like when nobody's changed it in a hundred years? Buscemi answers that question. The houses, the shops, the baker's oven. Everything has been restored to how it stood a century ago, and you walk through them as a kind of museum without walls. You'll see the blacksmith's house, the miller's, the farmer's place, the baker's workshop. It's not a performance or a reconstruction. It's the actual buildings, kept as they were, so the layout and the objects inside tell you how people lived then.
From there the route climbs into the Iblei mountains to Palazzolo Acreide, a baroque town that UNESCO added to its World Heritage list in 2002. The drive itself changes the view: away from the coast and into inland Sicily, with panoramic stretches that show a different landscape entirely. Once you arrive, you move through baroque churches like the Basilica of San Sebastiano and the Annunziata Church, and past palaces built in the same style. The town also has an archaeological area that layers ancient history under the baroque facades.
The day ends in Marzamemi, a fishing village on the coast where the old tuna trap (tonnara) still stands and the fishermen's houses have become bars and restaurants. This is where you can order and eat the seafood the village is known for: the Mediterranean flavors that come from boats that still work the water. Private transport moves you between all three stops. The vehicle is air-conditioned and WiFi is available on board.
