The experience
Eight to nine hours gives you room to move through the Amalfi Coast without rushing between stops. You depart from Naples or Sorrento in a private vehicle with an English-speaking driver who knows the winding coastal road. The itinerary is yours to shape: most travelers manage two or three stops from the full list, which includes Vietri sul Mare (known for hand-painted ceramics and seaside streets), Cetara (a fishing village with a colorful harbor), Maiori (a long seafront promenade), and Amalfi itself, where you have free time to wander the historic center and visit the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea.
Ravello sits on a hilltop above the coast, and you can choose between Villa Cimbrone (famous for its Terrace of Infinity overlooking the sea), or Villa Rufolo, where the classical composer Richard Wagner once stayed. Lunch happens in a village like Pontone or Scala, typically at a family-run restaurant with sea views. You arrange and pay for it separately. On the way back, the route crosses the Tramonti Valley, a landscape of terraced vineyards and lush mountains that frames the whole day. The road itself is spectacular but winding, so driving takes longer than the distance suggests.
If you want a certified guide to walk with you at each stop, that can be added to your booking. Otherwise, the driver remains with the vehicle and you explore on foot. Cruise ship passengers can arrange pickup from Salerno port and return timed to your ship's departure. The itinerary is flexible enough that you can swap in Positano or Sorrento if those suit your interests better, and you can even arrange a boat trip to see the coast from the sea between Positano and Amalfi. Ask before the tour starts if that appeals to you.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English and Italian.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (1 to 17 years): free.
What is the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea in Amalfi?
The Cathedral of Sant'Andrea is Amalfi's most famous landmark, a historic church in the town's center that you have free time to visit during your stop. It sits in a charming square surrounded by narrow streets and shops, and many travelers climb to the town's highest points nearby for views over the Amalfi Fjord.
Can I see the Amalfi Coast from the water instead of just driving along it?
Yes. Between Positano and Amalfi, you can arrange a boat trip to see the coast and cliffs from the sea, which the operator describes as spectacular. Let your driver know before the tour starts if you want to add this option.
What are Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo?
Both are historic villas in Ravello perched on the hilltop above the coast. Villa Cimbrone is celebrated for its Terrace of Infinity, a panoramic viewpoint over the sea. Villa Rufolo is renowned for its gardens and its connection to the composer Richard Wagner. You choose which one to visit during your stop in Ravello.
How many villages and towns will I actually visit in eight to nine hours?
Most travelers manage two or three stops from the full itinerary, depending on how long you spend in each place and which sites you choose. The winding road means driving takes longer than you might expect, so the operator builds the day around a realistic pace rather than cramming in every village.
What happens if I'm a cruise ship passenger?
Pickup is available from Salerno port, and your return time is coordinated with your ship's departure. When you book, provide your ship name, docking time, disembarkation time, and re-boarding time so the driver can plan the route and timing around your schedule.
Can I add a walking guide to explore the towns on foot?
Yes. A certified tour guide can be added to accompany you on foot at the sites you visit. Without this option, the driver stays with the vehicle and you explore each stop at your own pace.
