The Experience

Most Rome day trips stick to the city. This one puts you on a train at Roma Termini station in the early morning, heading south toward the coast. The high-speed train gets you to Salerno in under three hours — included in the price — and then you switch to a ferryboat for the final stretch to Amalfi. The whole journey feels like you're moving toward something, not just being driven in circles. Groups stay under 15 people, which means the boat doesn't feel packed and your guide can actually hear you if you ask a question.

Amalfi comes first. You get roughly two hours to walk through the medieval town on your own — the Cathedral is there if you want it, the squares are there if you want to sit and eat, the shops are there if you want to buy something you don't need. After Amalfi, the ferry takes you to Positano, and this is where the day opens up.
