The experience
The Amalfi Drive is the road itself: a narrow ribbon that clings to cliffs rising straight from the sea, connecting Sorrento to Amalfi through villages built into the mountainside. Your driver-guide handles the tight switchbacks and hairpin turns while you watch the coastline unfold. The route passes through Positano first, a village of pastel houses stacked on two mountain slopes where the road opens onto the gulf between Point Germano and Cape Sottile. From there the drive continues to Amalfi, a medieval city with a history tied to Roman families and named, according to legend, after a nymph Hercules loved and buried in what he called the most beautiful place in the world.
Ravello sits inland from the coast, a medieval city known for its patrician houses and views back toward the water. The full route takes seven to nine hours depending on how long you spend in each village and where you choose to stop. You're traveling in a private minivan with air conditioning, so the journey itself is comfortable even on the narrowest stretches of road. Because this is a private tour, not a shared one, you set the rhythm: linger in a village, skip a planned stop, or ask the driver-guide to pull over when the view catches you.
Pickup is included from your hotel in Sorrento or from the Naples ports if you're arriving by cruise ship. At booking, cruise passengers need to provide the ship name, docking time, disembarkation time and re-boarding time so the tour fits your schedule. Specialized infant seats are available if you're traveling with small children, and the route is suitable for all fitness levels since you're riding, not hiking.

Top questions
Can I book this tour if I'm arriving at Naples instead of Sorrento?
Yes. The tour departs from either Naples or Sorrento depending on which option you choose at checkout. If you pick the Naples departure, your driver-guide will collect you from the port there and drive you to the Amalfi Coast.
What is Positano actually like when we get there?
Positano sits on two mountain slopes at the centre of a gulf, with pastel-colored houses built vertically down toward the sea. It's one of the most photographed villages on the coast, and the narrow streets open onto small beaches and harbors tucked between the cliffs.
How much time do we spend driving versus stopping in villages?
The full tour runs seven to nine hours total. Most of that time is split between the drive itself (which is scenic but takes time because of the narrow, winding road), and stops in Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Since this is a private tour, you decide how long to linger in each place.
Is lunch included in the tour price?
Lunch is not included, so you'll have time to eat in one of the villages at a restaurant of your choice. Your driver-guide can recommend places.
What if I'm traveling with a baby or toddler?
Specialized infant seats are available, and small children can ride in a pram or stroller. The minivan is air-conditioned and the route is suitable for all fitness levels since you're not walking long distances.
