The Experience

So you've got a day in Naples and you're thinking, should I just stay put or actually get out there? Yeah, the Amalfi Coast is worth the drive. The route starts easy — you leave the city and after about an hour you hit Meta di Sorrento, a panoramic stop where the whole peninsula opens up below you. It's the kind of view that makes you understand why people moved here in the first place. Then you drop into Sorrento itself, and the streets are narrow and old and full of lemon everything. You walk around the historic center, taste the local products, and yeah, you try the limoncello — it's fresh and sharp and tastes nothing like the syrupy stuff back home.

From there the drive gets properly scenic. You pass Positano on a viewpoint that sits outside the town itself, so you're not fighting crowds, just standing there looking at the whole place stacked on the cliffs. Then comes Conca dei Marini and the emerald caves — you get a break, use the facilities, maybe grab some Amalfi ceramics if you want something to take back. Amalfi itself is the next stop, and the Cathedral of Sant'Andrea is right there in the center. It's got history layered into it, and the street food is worth trying. The whole town has this mix of old architecture and sea air that makes you slow down.

The last leg is Ravello, which sits up on a hill away from the coast. It's quieter than the other towns, more about the gardens — Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo are the ones everyone mentions — and the views that stretch out over everything. You walk through the streets, see what makes it different, and then it's the drive back to Naples, which takes about 90 minutes. The whole day is nine hours or so, and you've covered the main stretch of the coast without having to navigate the roads yourself or figure out timing between towns.
