The experience
You start at Mt. Arbel with a short walk to a viewpoint where the Sea of Galilee, the mountains of Galilee, and the Golan Heights spread out below. From there the route moves to Magdala, the ancient Jewish town where Mary Magdalene was born and where archaeologists recently uncovered a mysterious 1st-century synagogue. Lunch arrives as St. Peter's Fish, the local specialty.
After lunch, Capernaum, known as "the town of Jesus", holds an ancient synagogue and the remains of Peter's house, both standing as evidence of the town's biblical past. If time allows, a stop at the Tabgha church lets you see its famous Byzantine-era mosaic of the Multiplication of Loaves and Fishes. The day can end at the Jordan River, where you have the option to wade in the water wearing special garments provided for the occasion.
