Test the underwater world before committing to certification

An intro dive in Eilat pairs you with a private instructor for a 30-minute underwater session after a safety briefing, letting you experience Red Sea diving without enrolling in a full certification course. The dive lasts about 2 hours total. All equipment (wetsuit, fins, mask, tanks) is provided, and your instructor guides you through the basics before you descend. Children from age 8 are welcome with an adult.

The experience

You arrive unsure whether scuba diving is something you actually want to pursue, or you have limited time to test it before committing to a course. An intro dive solves that: your instructor meets you, walks through the safety rules and what to expect, then takes you down for 30 minutes to see what the Red Sea floor looks like and how your body responds to breathing underwater. No prior experience needed. The whole session runs about 2 hours from start to finish.

Your instructor is with you the entire time, not watching from the surface, but underwater beside you. Before descent, you'll get a briefing on how to equalize pressure in your ears, how to clear your mask if water gets in, and how to signal if something feels wrong. The equipment is fitted to you: wetsuit, bootie, fins, mask, and a tank with a regulator already set up. Once underwater, your instructor stays close and keeps the pace slow. Thirty minutes is long enough to adjust to breathing through the regulator and to see the reef structure and fish, but short enough that you're not exhausted when you surface.

You'll need to complete a health questionnaire before the dive: the operator screens for conditions like asthma, heart disease, ear problems and pregnancy that can make diving unsafe. If you're taking daily medication or have any chronic condition, check with your doctor first. Don't dive within 6 hours of flying. The dive center is in Eilat. Public transportation runs nearby if you need it, but you'll need to arrange your own way there.
