A 4-hour private diving activity in Tulamben, Bali, where you make two dives—one at the USAT Liberty, a warship sunk nearly a century ago, and one at a coral reef—with a certified local instructor, full equipment, lunch and briefing included. Beginners with no certification can join; certified divers are welcome. Round-trip shuttle transport is available as an add-on option.

The Experience

The USAT Liberty sits on the seafloor off Tulamben, a warship that went down almost a hundred years ago and is now home to coral, anemones, starfish and schools of fish that have claimed it. You arrive at the diving center for a briefing and equipment check, then head to the beach by shuttle. The first dive takes you down to explore the wreck and the reef life around it; afterward you surface, rest, change your air tank and have lunch—fried rice or fried noodles with a drink. The second dive follows, this time at a different site where you'll see the natural underwater landscape and species you won't find in shallow water.

A certified instructor leads both dives and handles the safety briefing before you enter the water. All scuba equipment is provided, along with parking, a porter to help with your gear, entrance fees and dive insurance. The whole experience runs four hours from start to finish. You can arrange round-trip shuttle transport from your accommodation in the Tulamben area, or come directly to the diving center if you're already nearby.

Beginners without certification can join this activity—the instructor will teach you what you need to know before you dive. If you're already certified, bring your credentials and dive straight in. The activity is not suitable for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnancy, asthma, epilepsy or cardiovascular conditions; you'll need at least moderate physical fitness. Minimum age is 12.
