The experience
Six hours is enough to move through Tabanan's three main temples without rushing between them. Tanah Lot sits on a rocky outcrop along the southwest coast. You can walk to its base during low tide and explore the tidal pools around it, or stay on the clifftop for the light that makes it famous for photographs. Alas Kedaton Temple sits inside a forest where macaque monkeys live. You'll move through the grounds at your own pace, past a massive ancient banyan tree and the temple's carved stone structures. The guide handles the route and the timing, so you're free to linger where something catches your eye.
The Jatiluwih Rice Terraces are UNESCO-listed and cover the middle hours of the day. These aren't flat fields. They cascade down the hillside in stepped layers, and the tour includes time to walk through them and take photographs. A restaurant stop overlooks the terraces themselves, so lunch happens in the landscape rather than away from it. Nearby coffee plantations show how Balinese coffee moves from bean to cup, and you can taste it fresh. The air-conditioned vehicle waits between stops, so the heat and the walking are on your terms.
Batukaru Temple sits in the mountains surrounded by forest and mist, dating back to the 11th century. The architecture is intricate carved stone in traditional Balinese style, and the atmosphere is quieter than the coastal temples. This is where locals come to pray. The day ends at Penatahan Hot Springs, where the mineral-rich water is warm year-round and surrounded by tropical greenery. You soak as long as you want before heading back to your hotel.

What is Tanah Lot Temple like when I get there?
Tanah Lot is a Hindu sea temple perched on a rocky outcrop on Bali's southwest coast. During low tide you can walk down to the base and explore the natural rock formations and tidal pools around it. At other times you stay on the clifftop. The temple is known for sunset photography, with the structure framed against the ocean and crashing waves.
Can I walk through the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces or just look at them?
The tour includes time to walk through the UNESCO-listed rice terraces themselves. They cascade down the hillside in stepped layers, and you move through them at your own pace. A restaurant stop overlooks the terraces, so you eat while looking out at the landscape.
Do I need to be fit to do this tour?
The tour involves walking at several stops: through temple grounds, across rice terrace fields, and around Batukaru Temple in the mountains. Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The tour is not recommended for people with spinal injuries, pregnancy or poor cardiovascular health.
Is lunch included in the price?
Lunch is not included, but the tour stops at a restaurant in Jatiluwih overlooking the rice terraces where you can order and pay separately. Coffee and a tasting at a nearby plantation are part of the tour.
How does pickup work if I'm staying outside Tabanan?
The tour includes hotel pickup from anywhere in the region. Your guide and driver collect you in the morning and return you at the end of the day, so you don't need to arrange transport to the starting point.
