The experience
The ride starts with pickup from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle and a full safety briefing from the guides at Saba Bay. You'll mount a healthy, gentle horse and head out onto the black sand beach for a 10 km ride along the coastline. The sea breeze and the sound of waves frame the whole experience, with Nusa Penida Island visible on the horizon throughout.
The route takes you past the Segara Wilis Temple, a seaside shrine in a quiet village, then meanders through lush bamboo and alang-alang plantations before returning to the stable. All safety equipment is provided, and the guides stay with you the entire time. The whole outing (pickup, ride and return) fits into a single morning or afternoon slot.
Is this one for you?One hour in the saddle leaves the rest of your day free, so this works as a morning or afternoon slot without eating into time for other activities. The private arrangement means no other guests share the vehicle or the ride, just you and your party with the guide.
