The experience
The morning starts in the village itself. You walk through Pejeng Kelod to see how daily life moves there, then visit Pura Pengukur-ukuran, a Hindu temple tied to Bali's oldest stories. It's where ancient heroes are said to have tested their strength. From there, a short hike brings you to Tegalsepih Waterfall, tucked into the green hills of Gianyar. The waterfall sits in its own quiet space, surrounded by forest. You're there to stand in front of it, not to rush through.
Then you move into the cooking class. A local chef walks you through the techniques that shape Balinese food: how to build the spice pastes, how to layer flavors, how the ingredients connect to the island's way of living. You're not watching a demonstration. You're in the kitchen making the dishes yourself. The meal you cook becomes your lunch, eaten together. The class runs on local ingredients and the knowledge the chef carries, not on a script.
An air-conditioned vehicle picks you up and brings you back. The day includes bottled water, coffee or tea, snacks, cooking equipment, and all fees. Children from age three are welcome. Five hours total, morning to early afternoon.
Is this one for you?The morning structure (village walk, temple, waterfall, then cooking) builds a day around Balinese life rather than rushing between photo stops. If you want to learn cooking technique and see where the ingredients come from on the same morning, this arrangement does both.
