The experience
Seven days takes you from Makassar to Wakatobi, a marine park spread across four islands in Southeast Sulawesi. You fly to Baubau on day one, then ferry to Wanci on day two, where the week's diving and snorkeling unfolds. The itinerary moves through Wangi Wangi, Kaledupa, Tomia and Binongko, each with its own reefs, villages and shorelines. Boat transport between islands is included, as is a dive guide, so you're not navigating the logistics alone.
Diving happens on a schedule: day three takes you to Wangi Wangi's House Reef, where you'll work on coral restoration with a marine biologist on hand to explain the local ecosystems. Day five centers on Tomia's Mari Mabuk Reef, described as an underwater paradise thick with fish and coral species. Snorkeling fills the gaps: Onemobaa Beach on day three is known for clear water, and afternoons often include time in the shallows. Meals come three times a day and lean on fresh seafood. Day four includes lunch with locals in Kaledupa, and day five ends at a cliffside restaurant overlooking the ocean.
Beyond the water, the itinerary weaves in the islands themselves. Day four includes a guided tour of Hoga Island and a visit to traditional Bajau villages, where stilt houses sit over the sea and the residents are sea nomads. Day six takes you trekking through Binongko's landscape and into a traditional blacksmith village. The return journey on day seven reverses the route: van to ferry, ferry to Baubau, lunch there, then the afternoon flight back to Makassar. Domestic flights, accommodation, all meals, dive equipment, snorkeling gear and the dive guide are included in the price. Tips, alcohol and beverages beyond what's provided are separate.
