The experience

The day starts early: pickup from your Pune hotel at 5am, then a flight departing at 7:20am that lands in Delhi by 9:30am. From there, a three-hour drive on the Yamuna Express Highway takes you to Agra. The Taj Mahal comes first: a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the 17th-century tomb built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife, Queen Mumtaz Mahal. A golf cart carries you to and from the monument entrance. Your private guide walks you through the site and explains the Mughal architecture and the story behind it. After lunch, you visit Agra Fort, another UNESCO site built by Emperor Akbar in 1565 from red sandstone, with courtyards, mosques and private chambers that show the blend of Hindu and Central Asian styles.

The return journey reverses the route: transfer back to Delhi Airport, then a flight to Pune that arrives in the evening. You're picked up from Pune Airport and dropped at your hotel. The entire day runs about 18 hours from pickup to drop-off. Water bottles travel with you throughout, and the air-conditioned private vehicle handles all transfers and sightseeing drives. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or two other languages, depending on which you select at booking.
