The experience

The trek starts Friday evening or any day after work. Shared transport picks you up in Dehradun and drives to Pantwari, the base camp where you'll spend the night in a tent on triple-share bedding with a sleeping mat and double-layer sleeping bag. Dinner is served after you settle in, and a bonfire runs 30 to 60 minutes if you want to join. Hot tea and pakoda arrive when you first reach camp. Maggi is available for an extra charge.

Day two begins at 3:30 am. You'll eat fruit and biscuits on the way up, then reach Nagtibba summit in time to watch the sunrise if the timing holds. In winter months when snow covers the peak, trekkers often slide and build snowmen before heading back down. Hot lunch waits at the base camp after you return, and once you've rested, the shared transport takes you back to Dehradun. The whole trek covers 20 kilometers across the two days, and the route passes through rocky terrain, forest, and open fields: no altitude sickness is commonly reported at this elevation.
