The Experience

I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous about hopping into a tuk-tuk in Jaipur—traffic here is its own kind of wild. But our driver, Rajesh, just grinned and waved us in like it was the most normal thing in the world. The second we started weaving through the pink-walled streets, I realized this is how you’re supposed to see Jaipur. You catch those smells—spiced chai from a street stall, incense drifting out of some doorway—and there’s this constant hum of voices and horns. It’s not quiet, but it feels alive.

We stopped first at Jal Mahal, which sits right in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. The morning haze made the palace look almost like it was floating. Rajesh told us stories about maharajas and renovations while a couple of kids tried to sell us postcards (I caved). Then we zipped over to City Palace—honestly, I didn’t expect to be so drawn in by all that history and color.
