The experience
You get a Yamaha Viper, a three-cylinder 1000cc machine with roughly 140 horsepower: more than twice the power of the regular glacier snowmobiles. The guide walks you through operation and safety before you head out, then leads you across Langjökull at a pace that matches the conditions and your comfort. Because these tours run in smaller groups separate from the standard trips, you travel faster and further than you would on a crowded run, and the guide can adjust the route on the fly based on what the snow and weather allow.
The four-hour outing includes an hour of actual riding time on the glacier, plus transfers between the base camp and Gullfoss Café where you start and finish. You wear overalls, gloves, a helmet, hat and overshoes. Everything provided. The guides are English-speaking and built the experience around riders who have some background on snowmobiles or other recreational vehicles. This is not a beginner tour, and the machines demand respect and focus.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24h before the start.
What is Langjökull and why ride there instead of other Icelandic glaciers?
Langjökull is Europe's second-largest glacier, located in South Iceland. The glacier's terrain and size let the guide choose routes that suit the conditions and your skill level, and the smaller group size means you can cover more ground at a higher pace than you would on a standard tour.
Do I need snowmobile experience to book this tour?
Yes, the operator recommends at least some recreational vehicle experience. This is a high-performance machine and a faster-paced ride than beginner tours. The guide gives a full safety and operation briefing before you ride, but prior comfort on a snowmobile or similar vehicle helps.
What's included in the four hours, and what happens at the base camp?
The four hours covers transfers to and from Gullfoss Café, a safety briefing at base camp, and one hour of riding time on the glacier. All protective gear (overalls, gloves, helmet, hat and overshoes) is provided. You bring your own shoes and any food or drinks you want.
How does the guide decide where to ride on the glacier?
The guide tailors the route based on current weather, snow conditions and terrain. Because the tour runs in smaller groups, the guide can adjust the pace and path to match what the glacier offers that day, letting you experience it the way locals do on their own performance machines.
