The experience

The day starts at Geysir Parking lot, just behind Geysir Centre on the Golden Circle route. From there, you board a super jeep for the drive up to Langjökull, Iceland's second-largest glacier. Once you arrive at the glacier hut, the guides fit you with all the necessary equipment (overall, balaclava, gloves, ski goggles and helmet), and walk you through the safety instructions you'll need before heading out on the snow.

Then you get on your snowmobile and ride across the glacier's landscape for about an hour. Two people share each machine unless you pay extra to ride solo. During the ride, the group makes a stop so you can take photos and switch drivers if you want to. The guide leads the way and sets the pace across the snow.

The whole outing, from pickup to drop-off back at Geysir Centre, takes 4.5 hours. You'll need a valid driver's license to operate the snowmobile. Children from age 8 can join, but there must be one adult per child or teenager on the activity.
