Step-by-step itinerary
Explore wildlife and snorkeling
- Visit Mayan Eden animal park
- Tour Roatan rum company
- Take photos at highest viewpoint
- Learn chocolate making at Mayak Chocolate
- Snorkel at Mesoamerican Barrier Reef
The experience
The snorkeling happens at the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the world's second-largest coral reef system. You get in the water with full snorkeling gear to see the colorful corals and fish that live there, then rest on the beach afterward. The reef is the centerpiece (it's why most people book this tour), but the day wraps around it with stops that show you how Roatan works beyond the water.
After the reef, you visit Mayan Eden, the local animal park where you can see monkeys, sloths, toucans and other wildlife up close. The tour also includes a stop at the Roatan Rum Company, where they make several types of artisanal rum on the island, and Mayak Chocolate, a workshop where you can watch chocolate being made from cocoa seed to finished bar. A guide in English or Spanish narrates the day, and an air-conditioned vehicle handles all the transport between stops.
The tour also takes you to the highest point in the area for photos. Four hours covers the reef time, the animal park, both craft workshops and the viewpoint, so the pace is steady but not rushed. Private transportation means you're not waiting for other groups or following a fixed schedule around town.
