Sloths hang in the trees while you photograph them, then chocolate and rum cake happen next

You're picked up at the cruise port and driven to an animal sanctuary where you photograph sloths, monkeys and macaws up close, then visit a chocolate factory with samples and a rum cake facility on the island's highest point with panoramic views. The day ends with a beach break at West Bay with chairs, umbrellas and facilities included, all in a private air-conditioned vehicle with no hidden costs.

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Pick up at port
  • Visit sloths and monkeys
  • Tour chocolate factory and sample
  • Sample rum and rum cake
  • Enjoy sightseeing views
  • Relax at West Bay Beach

The Experience

The animal sanctuary comes first, and it's where the day actually starts — you're picked up at the cruise port and driven straight to the park where sloths are just hanging there, literally, waiting for photos. Capuchin monkeys move through the enclosures, macaws sit bright and loud on branches, yellow-headed parrots call out. It's not a zoo where everything feels behind glass; these animals are in something closer to their natural habitat, and you can stand close enough to actually photograph them without a telephoto lens. Kids stop moving when they see the sloths.

After the sanctuary, the Chocolate Factory is where you learn how chocolate actually gets made — not a video, but the real process — and then you taste it. That part is quick but it sticks with you. Then comes the Rum Cake Factory, which sits on the highest peak of the island and gives you sightseeing views that make the whole north side of Roatan visible at once. You sample rum and rum cake there, and the views are the kind you remember when someone asks what Roatan looks like. The drive between stops is in an air-conditioned vehicle, which matters on a hot day when you're already in the sun at the beach later.

West Bay Beach is the last stop and it's the break part of the day — you get beach chairs, umbrellas, fresh water showers, restrooms, and WiFi if you need it. The water is clear enough that you see the bottom twenty feet out. You can sit under an umbrella with a tropical drink or get in the water; the time there is yours. The whole day runs 6 to 8 hours depending on how long you stay at the beach, which matters if your ship leaves in the afternoon. Private transportation the whole time means no waiting for a group van to fill up, and all fees and taxes are already in the price, so there's nothing to negotiate or add on at each stop.

What’s included

Your day includes private transportation from the cruise port, entry to the animal sanctuary with sloths, capuchin monkeys, macaws and parrots, a chocolate factory tour with samples, a rum cake facility visit with rum and cake tasting on the island's highest peak, a stop at West Bay Beach with beach chairs, umbrellas, fresh water showers, restrooms and WiFi, plus all fees and taxes.
