The experience

The coral reef at West End is where the snorkeling happens first. You'll spend roughly an hour in the water with all the gear provided, moving through an area thick with colorful fish, sea turtles and the reef structure itself: the kind of place where you can photograph what you're actually seeing instead of imagining it. The guide stays with the group and the vehicle waits on shore, so the transition to the next stop is just a dry-off and a short ride.

After the reef, the chocolate factory visit runs about 25 minutes: an informative walk through the operation and free samples of the different types they make. Then comes the rum factory, where you taste various rum flavors and rum cakes over another 25 minutes, with a viewpoint on the grounds for photographs. Crossing the street from there sits the Lighthouse, a 20-minute stop where you climb to the top for views across the island and the Caribbean: the kind of vantage point that makes the whole day click into place photographically.

On the return to port, there's a final stop at the Roatan sign for the kind of photo that proves you were here. The whole route is handled by a driver in an air-conditioned vehicle. All entry fees and snorkeling equipment are included, so there's nothing to arrange once you're on the boat.
