The experience
The tour starts from the western valley and moves through the landscape at a pace that lets you see how the villages sit against the steep limestone slopes. You stop at River Voidomatis, one of Europe's cleanest rivers, where you can wade or swim in the cold water if you choose to. From there you climb to Papigo and then to Mikro Papigo, two villages built into the mountainside, and visit Ovires Rogovo: natural pools tucked into a narrow canyon.
The route crosses a 1,090-meter pass to reach central Zagori, where you get the view Vikos Canyon is known for: the gorge drops almost a kilometre straight down. A small snack of traditional pies (spinach pies, seasonal fruit and local sweets) comes here, before the final stop in Dilofo at the heart of the region. The guide is English-speaking and included in the price, as is pickup from your hotel.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I actually swim in the River Voidomatis, or is it just a stop to look at?
River Voidomatis is one of Europe's cleanest rivers and the tour stops there specifically so you can plunge into it if you want to. The water is icy cold. It's optional, not required.
How deep is Vikos Canyon and what do I see from the viewpoint?
Vikos Canyon drops almost a kilometre at its deepest point. The viewpoint on the tour is positioned to show that depth. You view it from the rim rather than descending into it.
What villages do I actually visit, and how much time do I spend walking around them?
You pass through or visit Aristi, Papigo, Mikro Papigo, Ovires Rogovo, and Dilofo. The itinerary moves between them as stops rather than long walks through each one, so you see the stone buildings and streets without a strenuous hiking component.
Is food included, or do I need to bring money for lunch?
Traditional snacks (spinach pies, seasonal fruit and local sweets) are included partway through the day. A full meal in a taverna is not included, so you may want to budget for lunch or bring additional food.
What time does the tour start and end, and will I need to arrange my own way back?
The tour runs for eight hours and includes pickup from your hotel. Return to your hotel is included as part of the service.
