The Experience

What does a morning fishing trip actually look like? You get picked up from your hotel, then head out on a private boat to the volcanic southern coast where the water is quieter and the crowds are not. The captain—a local woman who knows where the fish are—sets out the rods, baits them, and either hands you the line or shows you how to do it yourself. Most days bring medium-sized rock fish and breams; occasionally a barracuda shows up. You fish for as long as the bite holds, or until you decide to stop and swim instead.

Once the catch is ready, the boat becomes a kitchen. The captain cooks what you caught that morning alongside Greek appetizers, fresh salads, and seafood, then you eat it all at a table on the water. Unlimited wine, beer, sodas and water come with the meal. Between courses there is time to snorkel off the boat using the provided equipment, or simply float and look at the cliffs. The whole day runs four hours from pickup to return, so the afternoon is still yours.

The boat is yours alone—no other groups, no schedule pressure, no strangers. The captain speaks English, Italian, Arabic or Greek depending on who is booking. Towels, fishing rods, bait, snorkelling gear, coffee and all the food and drink are already accounted for. If you have children over 10, they can learn to bait and cast; younger kids and infants can come along and watch, and specialized seats are available for small children.
