The experience

You start in the mountain village of Mochos, walking its narrow cobblestoned streets and stopping under the Writers' Plane Tree: a 2,400-year-old landmark where locals still gather. From there the route climbs toward the Lasithi Plateau, passing the old mills that frame views worth stopping for. The Diktaion Andron, an ancient Minoan sacred cave, sits at the high point. The climb up is moderate, and the cave itself is believed to be the birthplace of Zeus according to local tradition.

The afternoon centers on Knossos Palace, the Bronze Age seat of King Minos and the oldest civilization in Europe. Your guide walks you through the palace's layout and history. If you want to add the Heraklion Archaeological Museum (one of Greece's largest and most important), you can visit it on the way back. It's your choice. Lunch happens whenever you're ready at a restaurant you pick, so the day moves at your pace rather than a fixed schedule.

Transport is private throughout: a V.I.P. air-conditioned vehicle picks you up and drops you back. The tour runs 8 to 10 hours depending on how long you spend at each stop. Honey and raki tasting is included, along with bottled water for the day.

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

How much walking is involved in this tour?

You'll walk the cobblestoned streets of Mochos, climb moderately to the Diktaion Andron cave, and move through the Palace of Knossos on foot. The Lasithi Plateau itself offers views from the mills without strenuous hiking. Altogether, expect several hours of walking spread across the day, but it's manageable for most fitness levels.

What is the Writers' Plane Tree and why is it worth seeing?

The Writers' Plane Tree in Krasi is a 2,400-year-old landmark where locals have gathered for centuries. You'll sit under it, have a refreshing drink, and see why it's become a cultural meeting point in the region. It's one of the oldest trees in Crete and a living connection to the island's past.

Is the Heraklion Archaeological Museum included, or do I have to pay extra?

The museum visit is optional and not included in the tour price. You can choose to add it on the way back to Heraklion if you want to see one of Europe's most important collections of Minoan artifacts. Your guide can arrange entry if you decide to go.

Can I pick what time we stop for lunch?
