Step-by-step itinerary

The experience
The tour covers four and a half hours and can be shaped to fit your schedule. You travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle, which means the pace stays yours: no waiting for other groups, no fixed stops if you'd rather linger somewhere. The driver speaks English and carries a brochure about each stop, so you get context without a formal lecture.
Paleokastritsa is the centerpiece: the beach sits ringed by olive groves that slope down to emerald water, and the coves are small enough that you can actually find a quiet spot. You have time to swim and sunbathe, or you can pay locally for an optional boat trip into the sea caves. After that, the route takes you to a local producer's shop where you taste kumquat sweets, almond candy, limoncello, Greek olive oil, fresh bread, wine, honey and marmalade. The stop is optional, so if Paleokastritsa has you hooked, you can skip it and stay longer at the beach.
Before the Old Town, you pass Kanoni Peninsula to see the twin islets: Pontikonissi (the Mouse Island) and Vlacherna monastery, from the viewpoint where planes take off and land at eye level. The Old Town itself has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2007. The architecture shifts between Venetian, French and British periods as you walk the small alleys and squares. The monuments like the Old Venetian Fortress, the Palace of Saint Michael and Saint Georges, and the Church of Saint Spiridon are visible from outside, and the shops and traditional cafés stay open for browsing. Entry to the monuments themselves is not included, but they're worth seeing from the street.
