The experience
The tour starts with pickup from your hotel and heads to Mycenae, where the Bronze Age acropolis sits ringed by massive Cyclopean walls. The Lion Gate (two carved lions in relief above the entrance) marks the threshold to the fortified palace complex. Inside, the Treasury of Atreus (also called the Tomb of Agamemnon) holds a stone lintel weighing 120 tons, the largest ever placed above a doorway, constructed around 1250 BC. You explore the site at your own pace. The driver waits while you walk the acropolis and the surrounding burial areas.
The route then passes the Corinth Canal, a narrow waterway 6.4 kilometers long that separates the Peloponnese from mainland Greece. Carved through rock to a depth of 80 meters, it was built in 1893 and saves ships roughly 200 nautical miles by avoiding the route around the peninsula. You stop to view this engineering landmark before continuing to Ancient Corinth, where the Temple of Apollo, the ancient marketplace, Roman baths, and the Peirene Fountain sit among the ruins of a Greco-Roman city. The Archaeological Museum displays sculptures and artifacts from the region's history.
The final stop is the Theatre of Epidaurus, built in the 4th century BCE as part of the sanctuary of Asclepius, the god of medicine. The theatre is famous for its exceptional acoustics (a whisper on stage carries to the back rows), and its near-perfect preservation. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage location and still hosts performances. The driver returns you to your hotel after the day ends.
