The experience

The day starts with a vantage point overlooking Myrtos Beach, ranked annually in the world's top ten most exotic beaches. From there the route moves through three villages: Assos, where pastel-colored houses and a Venetian castle sit above the water; Fiskardo, a cosmopolitan harbor town with Venetian-era architecture where you stop for lunch and local dishes; and Agia Efimia, where you have free time to walk the waterfront shops and cafés. The guide handles the driving and pacing, so you move between stops without managing logistics.

The centerpiece is Melissani Lake, an underground cave system where you board a small boat to float across deep blue water while sunlight filters through an opening in the cave roof. Nearby, Drogarati Cave sits 3 km away and opens into a cathedral-like chamber of stalactites and stalagmites. It was discovered only 300 years ago when an earthquake broke through the entrance and exposed its acoustics. The day closes at a Robola Winery Cooperative, where 300 local farming partners produce the island's famous fruity wine for export, and you taste it on-site.

The group stays small, just eight people, which means the guide can adjust the pace and spend time at each stop without herding a crowd. An air-conditioned vehicle handles the driving, and pickup is included, so you don't need a rental car or arrange separate transport.
