The experience
The day starts at an olive mill where you walk the grove and watch how oil is pressed, then taste it paired with breakfast. From there you move to a family-owned winery that grows only Cretan grape varieties using organic methods. You get a full tour of the vineyard and the cellar, then sit in the shade overlooking the vines and taste five wines at your own pace.
After lunch at a traditional tavern attached to the raki distillery, you tour the distillery itself and see the ancient wine press and the methods used to make raki, Crete's most famous spirit. A tasting of wine and raki follows. The final stop is a pottery studio in a traditional village where pottery has been made since the Minoan era. You watch a demonstration of the craft and then try making pottery yourself. This stop does not run on Sundays.
The tour runs 6 to 7 hours total in an air-conditioned vehicle with a live English-speaking guide. Bottled water is provided throughout. All tastings and lunch are included. Wine and raki are for adults 18 and over.
