The experience
The day starts with a scenic drive from Chania through the charming villages of Rethymno, past the Gorge of Patsos and the Potamon Dam, arriving at Miss Ntina's taverna nestled near Psiloritis Mountain. You're welcomed with traditional Greek coffee in a rustic setting that embodies Cretan hospitality, giving you time to settle into the quiet atmosphere before the hands-on work begins.
Under Miss Ntina's guidance, you prepare authentic Cretan dishes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients: kneading dough for homemade bread, assembling ntakos (barley rusks topped with tomatoes and cheese), making gemista (stuffed tomatoes and peppers), and other island classics. As you work, you learn the stories and traditions behind each recipe, connecting the food to the culture that shaped it. The cooking is the point. You're not watching a demonstration.
Once everything is ready, you sit down to eat what you've made, paired with local wine or raki, with Psiloritis Mountain framed in the view. The meal is included, along with bottled water, coffee and tea throughout the day. Private transport handles all the driving, so there's no navigating or arranging separate rides.
