The Experience

The tour leaves Athens with hotel or cruise pickup and heads to the Corinth Canal first—the 4-mile waterway cut through the isthmus, 80 meters high and 27 meters wide, finished in 1896 after decades of work. It's a natural photo stop and a place to stand where Paul would have passed through. From there, the route moves to Ancient Corinth itself, a settlement 7,000 years old and one of the most important cities in both Greek and Roman times.

The heart of the day is the archaeological site: the Temple of Apollo, the only temple of Apollo positioned so the sun reaches it from every angle (fitting for the god of light); the Ancient Agora, the marketplace where daily life unfolded; and the Bema of St. Paul, the stone platform where Paul stood and preached in 51 A.D. You'll also see the Erastus inscription and the remains of what is believed to be the first Christian church Paul founded in Corinth. The museum holds statues, Roman emperors' portraits, and 265 amphoras in different Greek styles—the pottery that was the backbone of Corinthian trade. A professional guide who speaks English walks these sites with you and explains the connection between the archaeology, the history, and Paul's presence here.

Cenchreae port, where Paul met Priscilla and Aquila—the tentmakers who became his close companions—is also on the route. The tour includes a stop at Acrocorinth, the 530-meter fortress from the 5th century B.C., which held the Temple of Aphrodite and the workshops where Priscilla and Aquila worked. From there, views stretch across the canal and the surrounding landscape. The driver navigates all stops and handles the route; you bring only yourself and a willingness to walk the ancient streets.

Top questions

What exactly is the Bema of St. Paul, and why is it important to the tour?

The Bema of St. Paul is the stone platform in Ancient Corinth where Paul stood and preached to the Corinthians in 51 A.D. It is one of the most significant sites on the tour because it marks the exact place where Paul taught and established the early Christian church in Corinth, making it a focal point for anyone tracing his journey through Greece.

Does the tour include entry fees to the archaeological sites and museums?

Entry fees to the archaeological sites and museums are not included in the tour price; you pay them separately at each site. Your guide will accompany you into the sites if you choose the licensed guide option, which comes at an additional cost.

What is included in the hotel pickup, and does it work for cruise ship arrivals too?

Hotel pickup and drop-off are included in the tour price; the driver collects you from your hotel and returns you at the end of the day. Cruise ship pickup is also available. Airport pickup requires an additional fee.

How much walking is involved, and is the tour suitable for people with mobility concerns?

The tour involves walking through the archaeological sites and around Ancient Corinth, but all areas and surfaces are wheelchair accessible. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available upon request; the tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels.

What is the Temple of Apollo, and why is it the only one of its kind?

The Temple of Apollo in Ancient Corinth is the only temple of Apollo positioned so that sunlight reaches it from every angle—a deliberate design choice because Apollo was the god of light and music for the Greeks, Corinthians, and Romans. It is one of the most recognizable structures on the site and a centerpiece of the tour.

How long does the tour take, and what time does it start?

The tour lasts approximately 6.5 hours from pickup to drop-off. The exact start time is arranged when you book, based on your hotel or cruise ship schedule.
