The experience
The day starts with pickup from your Athens hotel or residence and a drive to Ancient Corinth, where you'll stand at the Bema: the monumental platform where Paul preached and was tried before Gallio. The Agora, Temple of Apollo (built around 560 BCE with rare monolithic columns), and the Archaeological Museum anchor the morning. You'll also see the Corinth Canal, the waterway cut through the isthmus in the late 19th century to spare ships a 185-nautical-mile detour around the Peloponnese, and learn about the Diolkos, the ancient stone trackway that served the same purpose from around 600 BC. The scale of engineering (ancient and modern) frames how central this narrow strip of land was to Greek commerce and power.
After free time for lunch and shopping in the modern city, the afternoon shifts to the cooking class. You'll work with local produce from the hills and learn to prepare dishes using techniques and ingredients rooted in the region. The olive oil tasting follows, sampling oils from local producers. Your driver speaks English and knows Greek history well enough to contextualize what you're seeing. The vehicle has WiFi, air conditioning and bottled water. Groups of one to three travel in a sedan. Groups of four to seven ride in a minivan. The whole day runs about six and a half hours from pickup to drop-off.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is the Bema in Ancient Corinth?
The Bema is the monumental platform in the Agora where Apostle Paul stood when he was tried before Gallio and where he preached to the city. It is one of the most significant sites in Corinth for Christians studying Paul's missionary journeys.
Can I see the Corinth Canal on this trip?
Yes, the Corinth Canal is included in the itinerary. The canal cuts through the isthmus to link the Gulf of Corinth to the Saronic Gulf, and you'll learn how it solved a problem ancient engineers tackled with the Diolkos, a stone trackway that operated for over 600 years.
What happens during the cooking class?
You'll prepare dishes using local produce from the hills around Corinth, then taste olive oils from regional producers. The class is hands-on, so you're making food, not watching a demonstration.
Is lunch included in the price?
Lunch is not included. A lunch stop is scheduled in the modern city of Corinth, and you'll have free time to eat and shop, but meal costs are your own.
How many people travel together on this trip?
