The experience
The tour opens at Cologne Cathedral, where the guide talks through its history before the group heads into the brewery quarter. From there, you move through five stops: Gaffel am Dom, Früh am Dom, Peters Brauhaus, a traditional street food stop, and Pfaffen Brauerei, ending at a brewery that reopened after World War II. At each stop, you taste a Kölsch beer, the city's signature pale lager, paired with a local dish. Gaffel serves Halve Hahn (a rye bread sandwich with cheese and onion); Früh pairs beer with Frikadelle (German meatballs); Pfaffen offers Kölsch caviar, a local specialty; and the final brewery serves Halve Mett-Happen (minced pork on bread).
The walk between breweries includes pauses to hear stories about Cologne's history, from its medieval past to its recovery after World War II. All food and drinks (every beer, every dish) come included in the price, so there are no surprise charges at the bar. The pace is built around tasting and talking rather than rushing. Three hours gives time to linger at each brewery and absorb both the beer and the conversation around it.
What’s included
- All Kölsch beer tastings and traditional German dishes at each brewery stop.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What exactly is Kölsch beer and why is it special to Cologne?
Kölsch is a pale lager brewed only in Cologne, served in small glasses and known for its light, crisp taste. The breweries on this tour each have their own version, and the guide explains what sets them apart.
Are the food portions big enough to make a meal, or is this more about tasting?
Each brewery stop includes one traditional dish paired with beer, so you're eating a full meal across the five stops rather than sampling tiny portions at each one.
Can I do this tour if I don't usually drink beer?
The tour is built around beer tasting, but the food is the other half of the experience. Talk to the guide about your preferences when the tour starts. The focus is on Cologne's food culture as much as its beer.
How much walking is involved over the 3 hours?
You walk between the five breweries with pauses in between, so it's a moderate pace. The tour is suitable for all fitness levels, and you spend most of the time sitting and eating rather than on your feet.
What's the difference between the private and shared tour options?
The private option is your group alone with the guide. The shared tour joins other travelers. Both follow the same route, stops and inclusions. You choose based on whether you want the experience with people you know or are open to meeting others.
