The Experience
The day starts at Bodbe Nunnery, where St. Nino preached Christianity in Georgia during the 4th century. From there you drive to Sighnaghi, an 18th-century fortified town perched on a hilltop overlooking the Alazani Valley. The 4.5 km defensive wall is the landmark—walk a stretch of it and take in the valley below before heading to lunch.
Lunch happens at a local family's home, and this is where the day shifts from sightseeing to living like a resident. You eat what they grow—vegetables, meat, bread from their garden and kitchen—and drink wine, Chacha and brandy without limit. A Tamada (Georgian toast master) leads the table through toasts, a ritual that is central to Georgian culture; you practice the tradition yourself. After the meal, you make Churchkhela, a traditional Georgian sweet made by dipping walnuts in grape juice and spices, then taking it home.
Next is a small natural wine cellar run by a local winemaker who walks you through Georgia's ancient winemaking methods—the same techniques that have been used for over 8,000 years. You taste the wines they make, paired with local snacks. The final stop is Telavi, the capital of Kakheti, where a short walk through town takes you past the fortress, theater and a 1,000-year-old tree before the drive back to Tbilisi begins.

The tour includes air-conditioned transport from Tbilisi, an English-speaking certified guide, admission to all sites, homemade lunch at a local family home, unlimited wine and Chacha during lunch, a Churchkhela masterclass, a guided tour of a traditional wine cellar with tasting and local snacks, and Georgian toast practice with a Tamada.

Can I choose between a shared group tour and a private tour?
Yes. You can book the shared All Inclusive Kakheti Day Trip or the Private day trip to Kakheti; both follow the same itinerary and include the family lunch, wine tasting and masterclasses, but the private option is for your group alone.
What does the family lunch include, and how much wine can I drink?
The family lunch includes homemade food from their garden, wine, Chacha (a Georgian brandy), and brandy served without limit. You also learn about Georgian toasting tradition from a Tamada and make Churchkhela, a walnut sweet, after the meal.
How long does the wine cellar visit last, and what happens there?
The wine cellar tour is a guided walk through a small, local natural winery where the owner explains Georgia's traditional winemaking process and shares personal stories. After the tour, you taste the wines they produce, served with local snacks.
Is this tour suitable for children, and what is the age requirement?
The tour is not suitable for children under 7 years old. Unsupervised minors are also not allowed, so children must be accompanied by an adult.
What is Sighnaghi, and what can I see there?
