The experience
The day starts with a 40-minute drive from Tbilisi to Badiauri, where you'll spend 30 minutes learning to make Shoti, the traditional Georgian flatbread, and tasting cheese made by hand using methods locals have kept for generations. From there, a 45-minute drive takes you to Bodbe Monastery, the burial place of St. Nino, the saint who brought Christianity to Georgia. You'll have 50 minutes to walk the grounds, learn the history behind her veneration, and if you choose, step into the sacred spring that draws pilgrims year-round.
A short 15-minute drive brings you to Sighnaghi, where you'll spend two hours on the town itself. The winding streets and pastel houses sit on a ridge overlooking the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus beyond. You'll walk the largest defensive wall in Georgia and move through the town's layout at your own pace while the guide explains its role in the region's history and culture.
The final stop is a local winery about 50 minutes from Sighnaghi, where you'll taste wines and have time for lunch (which you'll pay for separately). The tasting lasts roughly two hours, giving you room to sit, eat, and ask questions about how Georgian winemaking works. The country has been making wine for thousands of years, and the methods here still reflect that depth. The return drive to Tbilisi closes out the day.
