The experience
The walk starts at the Administration of Vashlovani Protected Areas, where you'll get an overview of the protected area before heading into Eagle Gorge itself. The trail runs along limestone cliff edges and western slopes of the valley, where you can watch for griffon vultures, Egyptian vultures and more than 75 species of rare birds. The canyon below reveals a completely different ecosystem. The rock formations are millions of years old, shaped from coral reefs that once covered this region. You'll spend roughly five hours on the trail, with time built in for birdwatching and the views across the hanging rocks.
After lunch in an open area, you walk toward a local wine cellar through rural countryside, seeing how people actually live in this part of Georgia. The final two hours are hands-on: you'll learn traditional bread baking from a local master and taste wine made the traditional way, with local snacks included. The guide handles the route and the instruction. You do the making and the tasting. The day ends with a return to the starting point by late afternoon.

Is this one for you?The tour is shared and guide-led, so you walk and learn at the group's pace rather than setting your own. Choose this if you want the birds, the geology and the rural life explained as you go, and if hands-on instruction in bread baking and wine tasting matters more than flexibility or privacy.
