The experience
You start with a 2-hour drive from Kutaisi into the Imereti highlands, then hike for an hour through untouched forest to reach the canyon entrance. The real work begins once you drop into the gorge: 3.5 to 4 hours of non-stop technical canyoning with 8 rappelling points, 2 natural water slides, 2 jumps into crystal-clear pools, and 12 roaring waterfalls punctuating the route. The highest single descent is 20 meters. Water levels run high, which means powerful flows and serious intensity throughout.
Two certified canyoning guides lead the group and manage the technical setup for each rappel and descent. You wear a 5mm wetsuit, helmet, harness and safety gear throughout. The guides handle the ropes and rigging. The canyon itself is the equipment: waterfalls become slides, pools become jump zones, and the Lekhidari River's roar follows you the whole way. This is not a sightseeing tour with stops for photos. It is a continuous physical and mental challenge designed for fit, confident adventurers who want to push their limits in a raw, high-intensity environment.
Transport from Kutaisi, bottled water and energetic food are included. You choose whether to bring your own canyon shoes or use what the guides provide. The full day (drive, hike, canyon time and return) takes 8 hours. Guides speak English and lead the activity in small groups.
