The day starts with pickup from your Tbilisi hotel and a drive toward Gori, where the Stalin Museum occupies a 1950s time capsule: the main exhibition building, Stalin's original birthplace house, and his personal railway carriage, all kept largely as they were. From there, the route continues to Uplistsikhe, an archaeological site carved into rock cliffs dating back to the 2nd millennium B.C. It once thrived as a Silk Road settlement and now stands as a maze of chambers and passages to move through at your own pace.

After Uplistsikhe, you drive to Mtskheta, Georgia's ancient capital and spiritual heart. Jvari Monastery sits on a hilltop overlooking the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994, built where St. Nino erected the first wooden cross that marked Georgia's conversion to Christianity. The views from the monastery grounds sweep across the valley and the town below. Then comes Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, the country's most prominent church, where the 11th-century structure holds frescoes and, according to tradition, Christ's robe. You walk the cathedral grounds and step inside to see the interior, then wander the streets of Mtskheta itself before the drive back to Tbilisi.

The certified English-speaking guide travels with you throughout, explaining the sites and their histories. Transportation is included. The route covers roughly 10.5 hours from start to return. If you book the private option, you visit only Mtskheta's two main sites. If you choose the shared tour, the Stalin Museum and Uplistsikhe are added to the itinerary.
