The experience

You arrive at your hotel or the Vaitape pier and board a private boat with your own captain: no group, no fixed itinerary. The captain shows you Bora Bora's snorkeling hotspots based on what interests you and what the lagoon conditions allow that day. You may head to shallow waters to see stingrays gliding across the sand and blacktip reef sharks, either swimming down to watch them or observing from the deck. You'll also snorkel around coral gardens where schools of tropical fish move through the branches. If you're new to snorkeling or nervous in the water, your captain stays close and guides you so you feel secure.

The 6-hour option adds a stop at a motu: a small reef islet with white sand and a view of Mt Otemanu across the lagoon. While your captain prepares a Polynesian-style barbecue, you rest on the beach and swim in the clear water. Lunch is served at a shaded table: grilled fish, chicken or beef with salad, fruit and sides, and you choose vegetarian or regular dishes. After eating, you have more time to snorkel, swim or lie on the sand before heading back.

All snorkeling gear is provided, and hotel pickup and drop-off are included. Your captain speaks English or French and is there to help if you're uncertain about the water or the equipment. Bring sunscreen, a hat, swimwear and a towel.
