The experience
Your ship docks in Villefranche, and you have a free afternoon on the Côte d'Azur. A private car picks up your group, up to 8 people, and heads straight to Nice, where you walk the Promenade des Anglais as it curves along the Bay of the Angels, past the Negresco and the beaches that define the French Riviera. The route itself is the point: you see the city on foot, not from a window.
From Nice, the drive takes you to Cannes and the Croisette, the seafront promenade that became the symbol of the city, then to the Palais des Festivals with its famous red carpet. Grasse comes next: the world's perfume capital since the 17th century. You walk through the old town, then enter the Fragonard perfume factory for a guided tour that shows how the scents are made. It's a working factory, not a museum, so you see the actual process.
The tour ends in St Paul de Vence, a medieval village perched on a hilltop, filled with art galleries and the names of artists who lived and worked there: Chagall, Picasso, Matisse, and the writers Prévert and Pagnol. You have time to walk the narrow streets before heading back to the port. The whole day is 7 hours, and your guide speaks English, Spanish, French, German or another language you choose at booking.
