The Experience
The day starts with hotel pickup between 7:30 and 10:00 am, then moves through central Paris by car. Your guide covers French history and architecture as you pass Luxembourg Gardens, Place de la Concorde, Les Invalides, the Alexander III bridge, Place Vendôme, Trocadéro square with its viewpoint toward the Eiffel Tower, and other major sights—this first stretch runs about two and a half to three hours. The Mercedes E220 fits two to three people; the minivan accommodates three to seven, so the vehicle scales with your group size.
From 10:00 to 11:00, you walk through Montmartre on the 18th arrondissement's 430-foot hill, visiting the white-domed Basilique du Sacré-Cœur. The guide explains the neighborhood's artistic past—Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso, Pissarro and Van Gogh all worked here during the Belle Époque. Then comes the Latin Quarter, a one-hour walking tour starting at 11:15. Situated on the left bank near Notre-Dame, this neighborhood centers on the University and student life, with its name tied to the Latin language spoken there during the Middle Ages. Narrow streets, bistros and the lively atmosphere come into focus as you move through it.
The final stop is Sainte-Chapelle from 12:15 to 1:00 pm. This 13th-century Gothic royal chapel holds one of the world's most extensive stained glass collections and sits within the medieval Palais de la Cité, the former residence of French kings. Entry is included. After Sainte-Chapelle, the tour ends with a Seine river cruise and drop-off at Île de la Cité by 1:30 pm. Bottled water is provided throughout.
