The experience
Sainte-Mère-Église is where the day begins: the town where paratrooper John Steele's chute caught on the church steeple on the morning of June 6, and where the 82nd Airborne fought to secure the first liberated ground in Normandy. Your guide walks you through what happened in those first hours, and the town itself still carries the marks of that liberation: the parachute memorial on the church, the museums, the streets the Americans held. This is not a drive-past. You stand in the place where the invasion began inland.
From there, the tour moves through 8 kilometers of Omaha Beach coastline, where your guide narrates each sector of the landing: what the Americans faced, where they came ashore, how the terrain shaped the battle. You see Les Braves, the sculpture honoring the soldiers who fought there, and a museum is available if you want to go deeper. Then comes Pointe du Hoc, the clifftop battery where U.S. Army Rangers scaled the bluffs under fire. The bomb craters remain untouched since 1944. You walk among them and climb through the German bunkers, and your guide explains how the Rangers took the position and held it. This is the site from Saving Private Ryan, and standing in the actual craters changes how you understand that film.
The day closes at the Normandy American Cemetery, where 9,387 white marble crosses and Stars of David face the English Channel: one of the most moving sights in all of France. A visitor center offers detailed exhibits about the war if you want context before you walk the grounds. Your guide is a licensed specialist in D-Day history, fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, French or another language, and the tour is fully customizable: tell the operator what matters most to you (the airborne story, the beach landings, the Rangers, the cemetery), and the day is built around that. Pickup is from your Bayeux hotel, train station or airport, and chilled water is provided throughout.

Is this one for you?Choose the private van option if your group is small and you want the guide's full attention and flexibility to linger at sites that matter most to you. The 16-seater coach works better for larger groups and keeps the cost lower per person while still giving you a specialist guide and the same four major sites.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German and Italian.
What happened at Sainte-Mère-Église on D-Day morning?
Sainte-Mère-Église was where the 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers landed before dawn on June 6, 1944, some unintentionally dropping into the town itself. Paratrooper John Steele's parachute snagged on the church steeple. He pretended to be dead to escape German capture. After fierce fighting, the Allies secured the town by morning, making it one of the first liberated places in Normandy.
Can I see the actual D-Day landing sites, or just museums?
You walk the actual sites: 8 kilometers of Omaha Beach coastline where the landings happened, Pointe du Hoc where the bomb craters and German bunkers remain untouched since the war, and the Normandy American Cemetery with its 9,387 white crosses. Museums are optional stops, not the focus. The guide takes you to the ground where the battle was fought.
How long does the tour take, and what's included in the price?
The tour runs 7 to 9 hours and includes pickup from your Bayeux hotel, train station or airport, a licensed D-Day specialist guide, and chilled water throughout the day. Entrance fees to sites and museums are not included in the tour price. You pay those separately if you choose to enter.
Can I customize the tour to focus on specific parts of the D-Day story?
Yes. The tour is fully customizable: tell the operator what interests you most (the airborne invasion, the beach landings, the Rangers at Pointe du Hoc, or the cemetery), and the day is built around your group's interests.
Do I need to arrange transportation, or is it included?
Transportation is included: the guide picks you up from your Bayeux hotel, train station or airport and drives you throughout the day in either a private van or a 16-seater coach, depending on your group size and the option you choose.
